Christian Education Vision

Through Emanuel’s ministry, the people of God will experience a closer relationship with God that impacts their personal and communal life. Christian Education Mission Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church will provide open doors and will invite, accept, care for and love people as they:

  • celebrate God’s promises of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ.
  • learn the good news of God’s word in the Bible.
  • are nurtured and strengthened in their daily relationship with God.
  • follow Jesus’ example to serve both the congregation and community.
  • experience God’s unconditional love.

What happens on Sunday Morning?

Our worship services are at 8:45 am and 10:30 am on Sunday.  Faith Trek, our Sunday Church School program, begins at 10:15 with a gathering in the Community Room for children In Kindergarten through Grade 6.  Children are assigned to small groups of six children led by an adult or youth shepherd.  Small groups will travel with up to two other groups to a weekly workshop.  At 11:00 children and shepherds gather back in the Community Room for music time before joining their families in the sanctuary at the Passing of the Peace.

Children who are three and four years old are welcome at Little Lutheran Landing - our preschool program - which is located downstairs at the end classrooms.  Leaders and shepherds in Little Lutheran Landing also gather at 10:15 and guide children up to the sanctuary to join families at the Passing of the Peace.

Children under three years of age are always welcome to join their families in worship or if they prefer, a professional nursery care provider is available on the first floor across from the Christian Education office.

Communion Practice

Every baptized Christian is welcome to receive the sacrament of holy communion here at Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Young and old gather together at one table.  Christ comes to us through the bread and wine just as he came to us in the waters of baptism.  In this sacrament the crucified and risen Christ is present, giving his true body and blood as food and drink.  We do not fully understand the mystery of how God uses water, bread and wine to give us grace.

We simply come trusting God’s promises.

The whole body of Christ comes to the table to be fed and receive strength and forgiveness of sins.

In the early church a baptismal candidate communed immediately after baptism.  The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has restored the intent of this practice by recommending that children be communed as well as adults.  The Use and Means of Grace is a published statement from the ELCA on the practice of word and sacrament. (1997)

Learning about our faith is a lifelong process.  Families are strongly encouraged to bring children during Lent to a formal education experience on the practice of holy communion.
