Let us invite you to join me in a little strategic family ministry thinking.
After a dozen years in the parish, 15 years on the road, and a heart incident last year* that literally stopped his heart, Rev. Rich Melheim of Faith Inkubators is coming to town to help us revision family ministry as families doing ministry... every night in every home. He will be leading one of his 75 seminars this spring at our church. This will include a four hour vision session for key leaders from 1 - 5 in the afternoon, and a fun family comedy/committment night for us from 7-8:30 pm. Here’s what the schedule entails:
1 - 5 pm FAITH 5 LEADERSHIP SEMINAR (Register at www.faithink.com/training)
In this seminar Rich will be challenging pastors, staffs, key volunteers and education leaders to:
1. Test the “FAITH 5” (Faith Acts In The Home) for six weeks in their own homes
2. Rethink Christian education as family-involved processes rather than church-run programs
3. Rethink church staffers as equippers of ministries rather than professional ministry programmers
4. Rethink knocking your heads against the wall to recruit reluctant teachers for a system that takes parents away from their children and attempts to do the faith incubation once a week without them
5. Rethink implementing systems that call parents to the responsibility, value and joy of being their own child’s faith mentors... every night in every home... from cradle to graduation.
7-8:30 PM “WORKING ON THE DREAM” FAMILY COMEDY NIGHT (Free for all!)
If you’ve never invited anyone to our church before, please consider inviting them to this! It’ll be 1/2 standup comedy, 1/2 practical parenting advice, 3/4 sneaky parent recruitment and 100% just plain fun. It’ll also be the closest thing to a parenting altar call you’ll ever experience. In the end, the majority of parents in the room will commit to investing 5 minutes each night listening to, learning from, and enjoying their kids. Don’t believe it? You just get there. Humor and the Holy Spirit will do the rest. Really. Please consider making it to this event. It will help your family. When it is over, I would greatly value your insights, critique, and wisdom as we begin to redesign our ministries at church into significant partnerships with parents.

Hope to see you there!
