Music at Emanuel
Why we Make Music
The people of Emanuel make music together because God has given us reason to rejoice! We believe that:
- It is our joyful duty to praise and glorify God through music in the highest quality.
- By singing and playing many hymns, songs and different styles of music, we recognize and learn the development of music that was used to praise God.
- Creating music together offers opportunities to build a community like no other.
Our Musical History
Emanuel has historically been known as the ‘Singing Church’. In the 1920’s and 1930’s Helge and G. Albert Pearson, a dynamic pair of brother-musicians brought the Spirit of God to Emanuel through their music. Many of Manchester’s present day musical organizations were founded by the Pearson brothers. There are pictures of the Emanuel Choir from the 1930’s with close to 75 singers!
Music At Emanuel Today
Music at Emanuel plays one of the most important roles in supporting and enhancing our worship experiences. We are constantly joining our efforts for better singing of hymns and liturgy accompanied by our fine instruments. We use special music written by the finest composers such as J.S. Bach and Heinrich Schutz to uplift our worship experiences, and show diverse aspects of music in Christian history with groups such as the Anthem Choir and New Day Singers. We are actively looking for more supporters to strengthen, and improve our music program. If you are interested in joining any of our music programs, please contact our Director of Music, Woosug Kang.
