Born on Saint Valentines’ Day in 1938, David grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Educated in the Minneapolis public schools, he spent his early years as an active member and participant at St. Paul’s and Nokomis Heights Lutheran Churches. An “only child”, he enjoyed the company of a large extended family. Following High School, David spent a year at The Lutheran Bible Institute, which led to his first experience of parish ministry as a summer intern at two small churches in western North Dakota. Beginning to sense a call to ministry, David pursued his college education at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas where he met his wife, Sandra. Married in 1959, they tackled the additional years of seminary education at Augustana Seminary, and David was ordained to the ministry in 1965. David and Sandra have five children and four grand-children. 

Pastor David served congregations in Willimantic/Brooklyn, CT; Lynn, MA; Waterbury, CT; and Vernon, CT before his retirement in May, 2002. He has served on numerous boards and committees of the New England Synod, and currently serves as the director of “Koinonia of Vermont” – a retreat ministry of the synod located in Londonderry, VT. David is a trained Spiritual Director, and has a strong interest in matters of personal and corporate spirituality. In his personal life, he is an avid photographer and bicyclist.

Tara as been on staff since April 2006. She is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University with her degrees in Education. As a member of the staff, her duties include; coordinating Faith Trek and Little Lutheran Landing, writing the monthly newsletters for these programs, coordinating the Vacation Bible School Program, and maintaining the Education part of the website. On a personal note, she was married in this church on April 18, 1998 and baptised both of her children here.

Jonathan Reuning-Scherer, has been director of music at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester since 1996. He is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, where he studied conducting with Marguerite Brooks. Jonathan is also a lecturer in statistics at Yale University. In 2002, he founded GODSONG, an ecumenical auditioned choir dedicated to the performance of great sacred choral works in the context of Christian worship. Since it's founding in 2002, GodSong has performed for bishops of the Lutheran and Episcopal churches and has been the featured choir at synodical events.

Carol  has been a member of Emanuel since February 1990 and the church secretary since July 1999. Her career includes secretary in a Lutheran Church in Ohio and various positions in banking in Ohio & Pennsylvania (i.e. teller, customer service representative, trust department and human resources.) She publishes the weekly bulletin information page, monthly newsletter, and meets the needs of all the staff and members of Emanuel. Carol sings soprano in the church choir, serves as communion assistant and usher at Sunday worship services, and is a member of Ruth Circle. When you call Emanuel, Carol is usually the one who answers with a friendly "hello"!

As a volunteer, she serves at the Samaritan Shelter in Manchester and coordinates the lay ministers (i.e. lectors, communion assistants, minister assistants) at the worship services each week. If you would like to serve at a worship service, click here.
